Arias and choruses from Handel’s Acis and Galatea

Iford Arts Young Artists with members of the Early Opera Company period orchestra led by Christian Curnyn, harpsichord.
The Holburne, in collaboration with Iford Arts, presents a concert of arias and choruses from Acis and Galatea - surely everyone’s favourite Handel opera? The music is contagiously catchy and bubbles with youthful melody and, sometimes, poignancy. This intimate concert offers a rare opportunity to glimpse at close quarters the artistry of Christian Curnyn, one of the world’s leading Handelians.

Founder of Early Opera Company, Christian Curnyn pursues a starry recording career with them which won him BBC Music Magazine opera award 2013 for his latest recording, Handel's Alceste. He is acclaimed as one of the world's foremost young exponents of the baroque, and regularly conducts in major opera houses from Sydney to Berlin via Chicago and ENO.

Don't miss this rare and close-up opportunity to hear this international star Handelian leading from the harpsichord. With members of his renowned Early Opera Company period orchestra Christian interrupts sold-out performances at nearby Iford Festival Opera to accompany the rising young cover singers from the cast in their own concert version of Handel's Acis and Galatea. Acis and Galatea is surely everyone's favourite Handel opera? The music is contagiously catchy and bubbles with youthful melody and, in the end, breathtaking poignancy.

‘Curnyn's conducting would have graced any festival in the world' The Times
