Gardener's Lodge and Museum Grounds
The Holburne Friends’ first second hand book sale was held on the museum lawns on a hot June day in 1975. Since then books a sales have been a regular feature in our fundraising.
This year’s sale on Saturday 29 June, will have books from paperback fiction to more scholarly volumes: biography, history, travel, art, architecture and music are just some of the subjects on offer. The sale provides a wonderful opportunity to find holiday reading or even come across that book you’ve been searching for over many years. There will also be sale catalogues, travel guides and pamphlets.
Sidney Blackmore who organised that first venture into books almost forty years ago is helping to organise this year’s event. One of the items sold then was an early edition of the Almanach de Gotha (a guide to Europe’s nobility) bound in scarlet leather with the original coat of arms emblazoned on the cover. One wonders where that volume is now.
Offers of books for the sale are welcome. Please let David Wiltshire and Sidney Blackmore know. Tel 01985 213195 or email Sidney.Blackmore@btinternet.com
They are happy to collect during the period 1 – 20 June.
