Ticket £5 Tel 01225 388569

Art and cultural historian Karen Hearn will explore the work of one of Julian Opie's favourite painters, Cornelius Johnson (1593-1661). Johnson portrayed many celebrated British figures, including Charles I, who made him his official painter in 1632. A decade later at the outbreak of the Civil War, the 50-year-old Johnson emigrated to the Netherlands, where he forged a second successful career.
