Edward Lear
‘Dear for his many gifts to many souls’: Edward Lear, artist and writer
Monday 15 October, 6.30pm

Café open for pre-talk drinks from 6pm
This lecture explores Edward Lear’s amazing productivity against the background of his complex character and recurring physical and mental illness. During his long life Lear became celebrated first for the beauty and accuracy of his natural history drawings; then the extraordinary range of his landscape oils and watercolours, based on extensive travels in Europe, the Near East, and India; and finally, the nonsense songs and verses for which he is now best remembered.
