Ekphrasis and Ekphrasis

WORKSHOP
Saturday 8 February 10am-4pm
Tim Liardet
Ticket £40/£35 tel 01225 388569

This workshop will take students back to the source of ekphrasis, to examine exactly what the process entails, trying to determine how a poem continues the act of interpretation the painter began. It will also attempt to answer the question what - in a time when the nature of the image itself has changed - is the new ekphrasis? The case study - the point from which the workshop sets out for this enquiry - will be the works of Joseph Wright of Derby.

Tim Liardet has produced nine collections of poetry. His various awards include an Arts Council England Writer's Award, various Poetry Book Society Recommendations and Special Commendations, a Whitbread Prize longlisting and TS Eliot Prize shortlisting. Madame Sasoo Goes Bathing, a pamphlet, appeared earlier this year. His next full collection is due from from Carcanet in Spring 2015; his New and Selected Poems, from the same publisher, in September 2016. He is Professor of Poetry at Bath Spa University.
