Artist Lyndal Jones explores the historical significance of the image of the boat

Artist and Professor, Lyndal Jones will be talk about the role of art in engaging with important historical and contemporary political issues. The discussion will explore the title of the work ‘Rehearsing Catastrophe: the Ark in Bath’ and the installation at The Holburne in relation to its importance to the historical centrality of the image of ‘ the boat’ for Bath and Sydney – from Captain Arthur Phillips and the First Fleet to Australia as convict ships to contemporary issues of refugees from war and possible environmental disaster.

Professor Anita Taylor, Dean of Bath School of Art and Design at Bath Spa University will introduce this free event.
