James Stourton is the author of many books including The British as Art Collectors, and Great Small Museums of Europe. James read History of Art at Cambridge and started his career as an Old Master paintings specialist with Sotheby’s in 1979 rising to become UK Chairman. He left a few years ago in order to concentrate full time on his writing and academic career. He is a regular contributor to The Times and other publications, is a frequent lecturer at the History of Art Faculty at Cambridge University, The Georgian Group and The Art Fund, and sits on several government committees including the Panel of the Heritage Memorial Fund. His most recent book was published in 2017: British Embassies: their diplomatic and architectural history (Frances Lincoln 2017) The lecture is organised by The Friends of the Holburne and directly follows the AGM.
