Join 'Les Bougies Baroques' as they lead the way to the latter part of the eighteenth century - an age of significant musical and political reform. With the decay of the 'Ancien Régime' (the 'Old Order') -which was being challenged by the intellectuals of the time - a 'New Order' was slowly but surely establishing itself, and the seeds of what we now recognise as 'Early-Modern Europe' were being sown. The concert will feature music by major European composers who were considered to be at the forefront of eighteenth-century musical reform - Mozart, Gluck, Haydn, and Salieri. The concert will also feature an overture from 18th-century Malta (c.1775) by Vincenzo Anfossi - a reformer in his own right who contributed to the shift in late eighteenth-century European musical taste.
A. Salieri - Sinfonia in D major ('La Veneziana')
C.W. Gluck - ‘Misera, dove son?... Ah non son io che parlo' from 'Ezio'
F.J. Haydn - ‘Qualche volta non fa male' from 'Il mondo della Luna'
W.A. Mozart - Symphony No. 15 in G major [K. 124]
V. Anfossi - Overture in D major [Ed. Richard Divall]
C.W. Gluck - ‘Il tuo furore del mio trionfo... Ecco alle mie catene' from 'Ezio'
F.J. Haydn - ‘Ragion nell'alma siede' from 'Il mondo della Luna'
C.W. Gluck - 'Va, ma tremo al tuo periglio' from 'Ezio'
W.A. Mozart - Keyboard Concerto No. 9 in E-flat major for fortepiano & orchestra [K. 271]
