| Biographical notes | Jan Wyck was born in Haarlem, and by 1674 was living in London with his father. He married twice, settling in Mortlake, near London in 1688. Wyck travelled through the British Isles, and landscape paintings of Scotland, Jersey, London, Oxford and Bristol exist. He specialised in battle scenes, recording several military expeditions of King William III. He also made portraits of officers on horseback, and hunting scenes, for which he was esteemed in Britain. John Wootton was his pupil in the 1690s. |
