| Biographical notes | Edward Charles Williams came from a family of landscape painters. He was trained by his father, also Edward, alongside his six brothers, who were all successful artists. His father taught him to paint in a style reminiscent of the seventeenth-century Dutch landscape painters that Holburne so admired. He lived in London and often painted the beautiful landscape of the surrounding countryside of Kent, Surrey, Sussex and Essex. This little painting on an oak panel was cleaned and glazed and the paint surface was consolidated in 1998, following water damage. |
