| Description |
A letter written in Italian from Luigi Cozzio to Sir William Holburne, 4 April, 1828 |
Hoburne. Frattanto mi creda Di Lei Sig. re Cav. Obmo. Servitore Luigi Cozzio No.1 Abbey St.
The letter may be translated:
Sir William Holburne // Most Esteemed Sir Knight Bath 4 April 1828 Having returned from Bristol, I have brought with me a case of paintings which you have not seen. If you would do me the honour of a visit I should be obliged. If it be the case that Sir William would also reconsider the 3 paintings that he has ?seen, as his last offer was not unreasonable, and as I must make a sacrifice, it would be much better for me to make it with you, to whom I am already obliged, than with another, as I am determined to please you and thus re-enter into the good graces of Sir William Holburne. Meanwhile, believe me Sir Knight Your most obliged servant Luigi Cozzio No.1 Abbey St. [Bath]
Further details about Luigi Cozzio have yet to be discovered. It is not clear whether Holburne did purchase the paintings referred to in the letter. |
