Notes

This is Sir William Holburne's annotated copy of the sale catalogue of the plate collection of Augustus, Duke of Sussex (1873-1843). Holburne acquired several Apostle spoons from the sale or shortly thereafter . It was previously believed that Holburne acquired the silver-gilt rosewater dish (S3, second day's sale, lot 301) directly from this sale. However it is now thought to have entered another collection before being purchased by Holburne. Augustus, Duke of Sussex (1773-1843) was the sixth son of George III. His vast collection was sold at Christie's in a series of sales in June and July 1845 and April and May 1846. The residue was sold in 1853.
