| Notes | This collection of three gothic novels bound in a single volume was published in 1834. Vathek: an Arabian tale was originally composed in French by William Beckford in 1782. It was translated into English and published in 1786. The Castle of Otranto by Horace Walpole was first published in 1764 and is considered to be the first gothic novel in the English language. The Bravo of Venice by Matthew Gregory Lewis was first published in 1805. His other gothic novels include The Monk (1796) and The Castle Spectre (1796). |
