Notes Little is known of the life of Sir Francis Holburne (1752-1820), the father of Sir William Holburne.  The son of Admiral Francis Holburne (1704-1771) and Frances Ball, he became the fourth Baronet on the death of his cousin Alexander in 1772.  After their marriage in 1786, Holburne and his wife Alice lived at Lower Sketty near Swansea.  By 1801 the family had moved to Bath to a house in Lansdown Crescent, now 7 Lansdown Place West.

This miniature is an example of the kind of work that might have been purchased in Bath from a middle-ranking artist.
