Join Matthew Winterbottom, Curator of Decorative Art, for a rare opportunity to handle netsuke from the Museum’s extensive collection. Small, compact, intricate and carved from materials such as ivory, bone and boxwood, netsuke are among the most tactile of all museum objects. These delightful Japanese carvings reflect every aspect of Japanese culture from scenes of everyday life and familiar objects to its rich folklore and mythical creatures.
