Portraits of the Soul
Portraits of the Soul - Lawrence Sail
Saturday 2 February, 10.30am-5pm Ticket £45/£35
'The countenance', suggested Cicero, 'is the portrait of the soul'. What do portraits reveal, what do they conceal? Running alongside the exhibition Painted Pomp: Art and Fashion in the Age of Shakespeare, and taking its cue from short poems by David Constantine, U.A. Fanthorpe and Pauline Stainer, this workshop gives you the opportunity to write your own poem/prose poem based on a portrait or photo. Bring along a picture or photo of your own to work from, or choose one provided by the tutor.
Lawrence Sail's most recent collection is Waking Dreams: New & Selected Poems (Bloodaxe Books), a Poetry Book Society Special Commendation. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
