In this talk Sir Roy Strong explores two of his great passions, high art and high fashion, through the extraordinary group of portraits by William Larkin which form the centrepiece of the Holburne’s exhibition Painted Pomp. Among much else, Sir Roy is a renowned expert on Jacobean portraiture and it was he who first attributed these important paintings to the little known Jacobean painter Larkin when he was still the youngest ever Director of the National Portrait Gallery. Entertaining and thought-provoking, Sir Roy will explore the fascinating history behind the paintings and what they reveal about the sitters and high fashion at the Jacobean court
