The Sulis Ensemble
1.10-1.50pm 2 October
A lunchtime recital of lovely chamber music from Italy and France. Including a lively string quintet by Boccherini - just the type of music a Georgian audience might have enjoyed as they admired the paintings by Gainsborough and Stubbs that now hang in the Holburne. This will be paired with a quintet by Anglo-French composer Georges Onslow - a rarely heard piece that is an absolute delight.
Boccherini - String Quintet in C Major, Op. 42, No. 2
Onslow - String Quintet, Op 34. No. 15
The Sulis Ensemble is a truly Bathonian enterprise, with all the musicians living locally. Formed in 2011, this five-piece string group is fast building a loyal audience for their distinctively friendly chamber music concerts, performed in local bars, ‘salons’ and small venues in Bath. They have recently performed at Corsham Fringe Festival, the Michael Tippett Centre, St Matthew’s Church and St James' Wine Vaults.
