Join Nathaniel Mander and Sam Brown as we celebrate Frank Brown’s contribution to the Museum in an informal, intimate evening of music and discussion, conjuring up the 19th century salon. The recital will be followed by a convivial party in the Garden Café – and the Anthony Fry retrospective will be open before the concert begins.
We will have a private tour of the gardens at Newnton House near Tetbury in the morning and the grounds of the country house hotel Lucknam Park (pictured above) at Colerne after lunch.
Our regular plant sale will be held on the first Sunday in May, a perfect time to
be planting out for the summer. We hope for a fine day for the stallholders – our regulars, and exciting new ones too.
Expert gardeners will be available to answer questions. We will once again be selling a fantastic range of nearly new gardening and cookery books. There will be home made cakes and biscuits, tea and coffee.
If you can help with any contributions of plants, please contact Antonia Johnson either via holburnefriends@gmail.com or on 01761 470770.
If you can offer a cake or biscuits or would just like to help out on the day, please contact Sally Roche 01225 315706 or sallyenroche@btinternet.com
We are fortunate to have private and exclusive access to this beautiful medieval manor house which stands by its own fish pond and is set in 12 acres of beautiful gardens. We will be shown the Great Hall and another half dozen or more principal rooms.
After a light ploughman’s lunch we will be shown round the gardens by the manor’s current owner Mary-Anne Robb. Much of the current plantings were laid out in the 1920s by the then owner Colonel Reginald Cooper. Perhaps a highlight is the 200 yard-long yew walk, off which are the private “garden rooms”, reflecting the medieval origins of the house itself.
The price will be £70 to include return private coach transport, light refreshments, a ploughman’s lunch, house and gardens tours. Please complete and return the booking form in the Spring Newsletter. For your reference, and any queries, this trip is being organised by Mark Hake.
Vienna is a glorious city offering huge scope for enjoyable short breaks. Two and a half days will be free for everyone to organise their own, individually chosen schedule, armed with a provided ‘Vienna Pass’ giving speedy, free access to all museums and most sites. Almost everything is within reasonable walking distance of the centrally-situated, famous Hotel Bristol (5 star).
The cost is approx. £1,150 per person sharing a double/ twin room. Please note that we’ve used up all of our single-room capacity, so only some double-rooms remain available (as at 21 March 2018).
