In 1934, Sylvia Gosse (1881-1968) gave the Holburne some “drawings I made of the Streets of Bath some years ago” - probably in 1916 when she was living in Bladud’s Buildings. Gosse was among the most accomplished of the circle around Walter Richard Sickert (1860-1942), and her sketches of Bath have the same air of faded gentility as Sickert’s Camden Town works. They have not been exhibited since 1990. On this occasion, we will be showing a selection of the drawings alongside photographs by Dan Brown taken on the same spot today. Together they show how little Bath has changed in 100 years.
