Brueghel saw it all / and with his grim // humor faithfully / recorded / it. So wrote American poet, William Carlos Williams in 1962, admiring reproductions of Peter Bruegel the Elder’s work. This new exhibition – with works by the Bruegel dynasty and their followers – gives a unique opportunity for poets to record their own responses to paintings which are by turns boisterous, touching, contemplative, fantastical. In this workshop participants will draw inspiration for writing about the Bruegels’ people as well as about our contemporary selves.
