“I will sing of my Love”: Scottish and English 18th century Songs for Voice and Historical Harps
Anne Lewis and Bill Taylor present a programme of Scottish and English 18th-century songs, airs and dance tunes for voice and historical harps. With pieces from several printed and manuscript sources, this recital includes the mysterious song Roslin Castle, lively minuets from Georgian Edinburgh and Bath, and the romantic Red, Red Rose. Bill will play a copy of a baroque hook harp and a 19-century zither.
Anne and Bill have been working together in various permutations since the last century, performing at York Minster, Jersey, Kildare, Bonn, and Glasgow Cathedral. Bill is a world authority in ancient harp music: he is part of Ardival Harps, designs and makes harps, and performs and teaches internationally. Anne is a mezzo-soprano with a long experience of performing, recording, teaching, and directing and arranging for community choirs. In 2013 The Burns Society in Kilmarnock asked Ann and Bill to perform at their annual gathering, and Voice & Harp was born!
