Maria Danishvar Brown (Soprano)
Vera Kovaleva Lewis (Piano)
Join us as we celebrate Sergei Rachmaninov’s Birthday on the Museum’s own Steinway piano which he used for his British concerts from 1929-38. The songs by Sergei Rachmaninov are loved in Russia but very little known in Western Europe because of their linguistic and technical difficulties. Maria Danishvar Brown and Vera Kovaleva Lewis will perform this special tribute featuring his best songs.
Maria Danishvar Brown, Russian soprano, studied singing with Alexander Petrov in Moscow and at the Music Academy in Kiev. Maria is a pupil of Rosa Mannion and an MA graduate of Bath Spa University. She is an oratorio and opera soloist in Bath, Dorset, Wales and the West Country and enjoys introducing audiences in Britain and Germany to the Russian repertoire.
Vera Kovaleva Lewis is a Russian pianist. Upon graduating from Saint Petersburg State Conservatory, Vera took a different career path, becoming a successful businesswoman and, later on, an executive coach. Fortunately, moving to Bath brought back the passion of her entire life – music – especially Rachmaninov’s piano and vocal masterpieces.
