Join Capella as they explore the musical world of Thomas Gainsborough. Famed for his portraits, Gainsborough was also a keen amateur musician and played the viola da gamba. In this illustrated concert, hear Capella perform pieces by Gainsborough’s musical friends and enjoy snapshots of his life in Ipswich, Bath and London as well as portraits of Carl Friedrich Abel, Johann Cristian Bach, John Stanley, the Linley family and Ignatius Sancho, a London-educated composer who was born a slave.
Cappella is a group of instrumentalists founded with the aim of presenting chamber music of a wide range of styles, in a lively and informative manner. They have performed for music clubs and in churches, concert halls, galleries and historic houses.
