Join us for a lively evening of song celebrating the musical and poetic traditions of 20th-century Germany, France and Britain. Richard Frewer and David Price will explore the German Lieder tradition through works by Richard Strauss, the romantic Gallic Mélodies of Satie, Chabrier, Duparc and Bizet, and English songs by Thomas Hardy and Gerald Finzi.
Richard Frewer sings for the joy and challenge of it. Throughout his career as architect and university chair professor, he has maintained a considerable reputation as a concert singer. He has been awarded the Philharmonic Orchestra’s prestigious Martin Scholarship, and taken part in Elisabeth Shwarzkopf’s masterclasses in London and Hanover. David Price was the director of music at Dauntsey’s School and has been conductor of the Trowbridge and Bath Symphony Orchestras and musical director of a number of West Country opera companies. He is a passionate chamber music player and a distinguished freelance coach, accompanist and lecturer.
