The Bath Art fair was created in 2016 by award winning Somerset artist Alce Harfield. Tired of travelling and exhibiting her work at other art fairs she decided to bring the wonderful concept to her area (and sleep in her own bed!)
Now in its third year we have a new venue in the centre of Bath , a new logo and picked up the Creative Bath Award in the ‘arts’ section with the judges commenting, ‘Surely this is the future of selling art? This project took a gamble which has paid off, making art accessible through an impressive business model.’
We were also shortlisted for a prestigious Bath Life Award in 2018 and now shortlisted again in 2019! Bringing together 85 of the most innovative and exciting professional independent artists from all over Europe (with many from the South West ) an art fair is the perfect setting for customers to discover new original art. Our artists are only too happy to explain their inspirations and processes and discuss commissions. Our visitors enjoy meeting the artists and find that emotional connection with their work that galleries just can’t offer.
We have an inclusive policy which means we have professional artists with many years of working behind them to young fresh new talent exhibiting for the first time side by side. We also specialize in a lot of ‘nurturing hand-holding’ to help our artists get the best from the fair.
Amongst our returning artists we have Steve Yeates from London who uses recycled bus shelter glass to cast beautiful figurative sculpture, Dawn Reader from Somerset who works in oil on linen and has been featured in Vogue and Homes and Gardens and Alce who specializes in 3d acrylic paintings focussing on colour and who has won the Somerset Life Landscape Painter of the Year ( for her images of Glastonbury Festival) and won the Mendip Retail Business of the Year.
New for 2019 we have animal photographer Lisa Saint from Hampshire who won the Animal Portrait Category in the Master Photographer of the Year for her stunning equine image, landscape painter Mel Cormack-Hicks from Gloucestershire who was ‘artist in residence’ at WWT Slimbridge and Dee Walker from Cheshire who was shortlisted for the M S Amlin Prize in the National Open Art Prize for her rich abstracts.
This year we have teamed up with Bath’s Holburne Museum’s Pathway to Wellbeing programme which supports local people who have experienced mental health issues, social isolation and homelessness by offering FREE creative, museum-based opportunities which promote wellbeing. We aim to raise £500 through our stand of donated ‘pre-loved’ art as well as displaying work from the programme for sale.
